The environmental impact of the fashion industry is catastrophic, with two million tonnes of waste reaching landfill each year. NEISHA is a conscious effort by the designer to combat this issue.

Many garments are made with a "Zero-Waste" cutting technique, by using the "waste" of one garment to form the basis of the next. When the cutting of garments do not allow for this waste to be utilised, the off-cuts are used to make cords for our swing tags, and accessories for photoshoots and shows. After every cutting session, a bag of our prettiest off-cuts are sent to Stephanie K who transforms them into beautiful baubles for her jewellery collection. The rest are given to a local manufacturer of boxing bags where they are used as filler.

In 2008, NEISHA began a partnership with a group of batik artists in Gambia, West Africa. Inspired by the spirit and talent of the artists NEISHA donates 5% of sales made from garments that utilise the hand-crafted fabrics to building sustainable artistic businesses in the Bakau community. This money goes directly to the artists, who use it to buy tools, internet access and mobile phones for their businesses. This supports the community in continuing to work even in the off-season. It also fosters greater communication between the artists and their customers.

Aside from these hand-crafted batik fabrics, all fabrics are non-season stock. In this way NEISHA does not contribute to the continuing production of new fabrics, while the world is awash with fabrics from previous seasons.

When you wear NEISHA you can feel good in your threads, knowing that every effort has been taken to care and replenish the environment, as well as those who make the clothes you are in.
